With an Olympic medal in her hand, MC Mary Kom became the latest sports sensation. Just any other sports player, Mary Kom’s success story is also very inspiring. By not caring about the obstacle that life gave her she moved on to fight against all the odds and won the Women World Amateur Boxing Championship consecutively in the year 2002, 2005 and 2006. Well, she is again back with a bang to prove her unflinching love for her sport, boxing.

MC Mary Kom yet again collected another gold medal (for the third time) while the other player Manisha got a silver in the 13th Silesian Open Boxing Tournament for Women. The five-time remained world champion returned to the ring after quite a long time as she was recovering from objections which kept her out of participating in the Asian games. This prevailed 5-0 against Aigerim Kassanayeva of Kazakhstan for picking up India’s lone senior category gold.

This year she also won two gold medals in the inaugural ceremony of the India Open in Delhi and also in the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast. In Bulgaria, she also won a silver at the prestigious Strandja Memorial Tournament.

Mary’s brilliant display of the counter-attack strategy

The 35-year-old sports star displayed a stronger counter-attack strategy as she did not allow a clean shot through the attack to Kassanayeva. She was lauded with praises from her fans and also from coach Rafaelle Bergamasco from Gliwice. It has been noted the Mary took full advantage of the situation and went full throttle in the last three minutes for striking few blows.

Mary and her true sportsmanship nature

Like any other sportsperson, MC Mary Kom has the quality of a true sportsman. Mary in an interview talks about how she lost 2 kgs of weight after she landed in Poland. She was a couple of kilos above 48kg that would have disqualified her from the tournament, but she was adamant enough to lose weight within four hours by skipping at a stretch for almost an hour.

Despite being a small village, she has always dreamt of something bigger. And yes. She has achieved it in fact; by becoming world champion in boxing by breaking all the hurdles that came in her way. Her biggest support is her husband Onler whom she considers her guide as well. And yes. Onler too is in praise for Mary.

According to The Economic Times, “She is hyperactive, always looking for something to do. She cannot sit idle even after coming from a long journey. Something is dusty, it needs to be cleaned right away, she does it herself, or else she would find something in the kitchen. She gets her happiness in all this, that’s how she unwinds,” said Onler, who now manages the administration department of the couple’s boxing academy located in Manipur.

MC Mary Kom inspires millions of women to pursue their career even after marriage. Although there might be thousands of hurdles fighting against all odds would one day show them the path of success.

Women of Courage salutes her hardworking and strong sportsman spirit.
