9 July 2018
Child marriages have almost come to a halt as people are getting aware. Yet, in some regions, children are married off at an early age.
In our today’s story, we have a young lady, who got rescued from her child marriage and got an opportunity to play Rugby for India’s U-19 and has also represented Telangana in cricket in the past.
A 16-year-old girl, B Anusha who had just cleared her 10th Boards, was told by her parents that she was ready for marriage. From a very young age, she was told that women get married when they reach an appropriate age. So, she didn’t object when she was told about her own marriage.
Anusha’s family was going to get her married to a 26-year-old relative last year. But, she got rescued by the police and the city-based child rights NGO Balaka Hakkila Sangham. Subsequently, Anusha found her calling in sports.
She is a quick learner and has received an all-round appreciation on the sporting fields during the inter-school cricket.
“Anusha showed an all-round performance in the inter-school under-19 cricket match held in Madhya Pradesh recently,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said. (Source: FreePressJournal)
She has excelled in National-level Cricket Tournament and now is all set to participate in the under-19 Rugby Tournament.
“I started taking training from Class IX and I was later selected for the cricket team and I played for Under-19 nationals in Indore. Currently, I am playing rugby for the national team. I feel very happy and would like to play for international as well,” she said to ANI about her love for sports.
She was recently felicitated by the Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat for her achievements. Anusha is pursuing her intermediate at Government Junior College, Saroornagar, and continues to play cricket.
Let give girls their wings to fly. Marriage is a beautiful thing but it is good if it happens at a correct age and time. Anusha is a bright girl. She is exploring herself and making her family proud by doing wonders in sports. If she was married off, she would just be a domestic slave.
B Anusha is Woman Of Courage because she is spreading her wings and living her life. She is a young blood and the field of sports is waiting to celebrate her next victory.
Team WOC wishes B Anusha a very bright future in the fields of sports and a beautiful life on her own feet.
