Cleanliness has been an aspect of major concern and care in our country for quite a long time now. Our honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi came up with a campaign of “Clean India, Green India: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” in 2015. And post the campaign, drastic changes have been achieved which leads to building our nation upright well.

One such city is Indore. Indore rose from a low of 180 in 2015 to 25 in 2016 and finally to the number one rank among 434 cities in 2017. This significant landmark was achieved because of the efforts of the current mayor of the city, Malini Gaur along with the Indore Municipal Corporation and the residents of the city.

Malini Laxmansingh Gaur is an Indian politician from Bharatiya Janata Party. She became mayor in February 2015 by defeating her nearest rival Archana Jaiswal of Indian National Congress. Her husband Laxman Singh Gaur, was the former higher education minister of Madhya Pradesh who died in a car accident near Dewas in February 2008.

Talking about, how her efforts turned into blissfulness for the city, drive us back to the time when Modiji announced for Swachh Bharat from the ramparts of the Red Fort. Malini Gaur then stated that “We are quite confident of retaining the top position in 2018.”

Malini Gaur, the mayor of the city has successfully managed to elevate the city to rank 1 by her determination and flawless planning.  The woman has fought against all odds and has fought against political parties, business lobbies and even the sanitation workers to bring about a positive change in her city.

Indore now has become a gleaming example and has been visited by approximately 250 municipal authorities to learn from the city’s example and follow it. The city is now aspiring for a facility to make compost, at extracting methane gas from waste from the wholesale vegetable market to fuel some of the city buses, to making the district open defecation free (ODF), ensuring dry and wet waste segregation at a door-to-door level, and cleaning monuments and footpaths each night as per a report by YourStory.

Malini Gaur is bringing prosperity in her city and its something every one of us must join hands in. The Indore Municipal Corporation has a budget of Rs.400 crore under the Swacch Bharat Mission, but its operational cost is just Rs,160 crores after a capital investment of Rs. 150 crores.

Even the people residing in Indore have contributed to become the rank one city in cleanliness in India. Individual households pay Rs.60 and commercial units pay Rs.90 per month for Clean Indore.

Malini Gaur is a Woman of Courage because she is the determined and enlightened politician. It takes a lot for a woman to stand out from the crowd and make an identity with her work and talent. Malini Gaur has successfully accomplished her mission and continues to work for it in full fledge.
