Boxer Andleeb Zehra From Kashmir Wants To Earn Medals For The Country

Giving young boys and girls of Kashmir more reasons to dreams, Andleeb Zehra, a Kashmiri girl has made a mark in the sport of Boxing.

First-year medical student, Andleeb says she has drawn inspiration from ace boxer Mary Kom and aims to bag an Olympic medal in the near future.

Hailing from a middle-class family in Magam village in Budgam district of Jammu & Kashmir, Andleeb has been fond of sports. She spends Rs.700 a day to reach her training venue in Srinagar. She also says the rest of the situation in the state will not come in the way of her Olympic dream.

The decision to join boxing and start training in the indoor stadium from professional coaches came into action after she watched Mary Kom in the ring. Andleeb gives a huge credit to her parents and friends for their overwhelming support, trust and encouragement.

“My family supported me. In fact, my family and friends were very happy with my decision,” Andleeb says.

Indian education system is strict but a pinch of sports is necessary. Andleeb believes that studies and sports need a harmonious balance which is pertinent to lead a healthy life.  Boxing is a very good sport for women. With boxing, self-defence is encountered and that is a crucial part for women to learn.

Andleeb has participated in many events in the state of Jammu & Kashmir and has won Silver Medal in State Boxing Championship which was held at Jammu. She aspired to be like Mary Kom and bring home the pride. She wishes to win medals for the country.

Her coach, Farooq Khan is amazed by the sporting skills and spirit of this Kashmiri Girl. He believes that Andleeb will win many medals in the future.

Indian women have expanded their boundaries to the extremes. Whether it is any field, the count of women is increasing. And, so is the field of Boxing. Andleeb Zehra is a Woman Of Courage because she is determined and her passion to win Olympic medal and her hard work shows it all.
