The first woman train guard in Waltair Division of Indian Railways

U. H. Lakshmi, the first woman train guard of the Waltair Division. She was assigned the duties as a goods guard in her first trip from Marshalling yard to Rayagada in Odisha. She was appointed as trains’ clerk in Waltair division in 2011 on compassionate grounds after the death of her husband, reports The Hindu

She worked very hard to qualify for the post of goods guard. After passing the departmental examination, Lakshmi underwent training at the Zonal Railway Institute at Sini in Jharkhand last year.

A job of a rail guard is one of the toughest jobs in the Indian Railways.
